I attended Social Media Week in London this month so I thought I’d share three key takeaways.


With an advertising platform open to all, instagram was a hot topic and one to watch. The big question was how instagram works with your wider social strategy and how it’s going to complement this.

Do you have an influencer strategy?

Okay, so you (hopefully) know who your target audience is. Well, who influences them? Their partners, children, friends and colleagues. Perhaps a well defined influencer strategy is what you’re missing. If you can target people close to your target audience, they’ll do the hard work for you. A great example from a discussion with Wealth-X was using instagram to target the partners of wealthy consumers. It’s not only a key channel, but a source of discovery for fashion, technology & more.

Social Recruiting.

Social recruiting needs to evolve into social & mobile recruiting. Awareness of new roles occurs more on mobile devices now and most companies need to catch up. Responsive sites are a given, but how can a candidate apply or save the role without much friction?

During my time at #SMWLDN I met the guys at WeWork who gave me this lovely t-shirt – they’re huge in the US and growing fast in the UK. If you’re looking for super cool working space, then definitely check them out.
